Arsenal VS Wigan
As a fellow gooner I have to admit I was worried about the midweek trip to Elland Road and glad to get it out of the way.
The 3-1 win led to Rio Ferdinand tweet that Samir Nasri should be the PFA player of the year. Know one is playing better then the Frechman this season but something tells me that being British might just give Gareth Bale the nod, still though at 13-1 (with William Hill) it’s worth a bet surely.
As for the game on Saturday it’s a case of which Wigan show up. The latics have the potential to lay down and take a hammering or if their on song they could surprise some people. It might also be a case of which Arsenal show up. Too many times this season Arsenal have underestimated the opposition, been complainace and simply have not performed, think West Brom, Newcastle, Leeds and Ipswich. Wigan ? I think not.
Arsenal 2-0 Wigan
Aston Villa vs Man City
Is the 24 million signing of Darren Bent a panic buy?
The most important thing in football is goals. Goals, or a lack of goals can be the difference between relegation and survival, a place in Europe or mid table. What I am trying to get at is that Darren Bent guarantees you goals.
It might also indicate a change in thinking from Randy Learner. The American seemed focused on balancing the books in August, a strategy which made Martin O’Neil feel Villa had gone as far as possible. If Martin O’Neil had been offered Darren Bent would he of reconsidered?
New signings also freshen up the place and it might just make the difference to the rest of the side. Suddenly not just do Villa have exciting youngsters, sort after wingers in Ashley Young and Stewart Downing, a defensive partnership in Dunne and Collins looking more like their old self but now someone to put the ball in the back of the net.
I predict Villa to get something this weekend and Bent to score against Man City, who by their standards have not been great defensively in their last two games.
Aston Villa 2-2 Manchester City
Blackburn vs WestBrom
I still don’t understand why Blackburn sacked Sam Allydyce, I still don’t understand why they wanted Ronaldhinio and still don’t understand or trust why Steve Kean has been been give a three year contract.
Nor do I understand why Sky have chose this as their Super Sunday offering.
While I am worried about the future longterm for Blackburn under the direction of their Indian owners one good thing they have done is bring back Santa Cruz who when properly fit should score the goals to keep Blackburn up.
Blackburn 3-1 West Brom
Blackpool Vs Sunderland
This has to be the worst week of an otherwise decent season for Sunderland and they could of done with a kinder fixture then a trip to Blackpool. Steve Bruce is understandably frustrated at Darren Bent and Aston Villa. Not because of Bent being tapped up, that goes on, but the manner and timing of the departure. Bent owed Sunderland more. They gave him the platform to play and score and become their main man. Leaving in January gives Bruce less then two weeks to find a replacement and quality replacements may not be around in January. While you can’t put a line under Sunderlands season not having Bent might cost them a European place. With Gyan Sunderlands only fit striker already you wonder where will the goals come from.
Oh and while we are talking about transfers, Ian Holloway wants 46 million for Charlie Adam .If someone offered 10 million Blackpool would take it.
Blackpool 1-0 Sunderland
Bolton VS Chelsea
Chelsea were not exactly stunning against Blackburn last week but Chelsea have made a habit over the years of winning scrappy when not playing well. That’s why however many people write them off the title, including it seems their own players, I can still see them putting a winning run together.
A trip to the Reebok is always a test of a sides character and spirit so a win here could be a turning point for the champions. It’s a good time to face Bolton who are having a bit of a bad run. It is no coincidence that this has happened in a spell where thy have had to play allot of games. Bolton have strengthened their squad with the signing of David Wheater. A signing which O Coyle insists is not a direct replacement for Gary O’Neill. I believe him, in the short term anyway.
Bolton 1-2 Chelsea
Everton VS West Ham
So David Gould and Sullivan went out to get a new manger and just made things worse. Whatever your opinion is on Avram Grant he is either the manger or not. If he is then the job of a chairman is to give him the best support possible not threaten him that each game could be his last. The whole fiasco made it impossible for Avram to get a result against Arsenal and how he can continue to manage the club, knowing that his bosses have been trying to find a replacement will be difficult. It is so close at the bottom that the events of the last two weeks could be the difference in survival or relegation for the Hammers and the board deserve it for while they have been treating Grant so insensitively the days have been ticking on where their attention should be, the transfer window.
Everton 3-0 West Ham
Fulham VS Stoke
With John Carew on loan, Ricardo Fuller staying and the likes of Tuncay and Gudjonson desperate for a game Tony Pullis should not be short of goals. The same cannot be said for Mark Hughes which is why the safe bet is to go for Fulhams favorite result at Cravon Cottage, a draw.
Oh and keep your eye on the touchline, these two managers do not like each other.
Man United VS Birmingham
Man Uniteds title rivals might of been worried what they saw last weekend. While United did not not look threatening in the final third defensively they were excellent. How many world class save did Edwin Vandersar have to make? I counted none, which is incredible when you think how well Totenham have done this season. If Vidic and Ferdinand stay fit (which you cannot guarantee with Rio) then Sir Alex Ferguson has an excellent chance of making it 19 titles.
Speaking of defensively, that will be Birmingham’s best chance of getting anything at Old Trafford but their away form suggests they won’t. The likes of Heleb and Bentley might not be the players you need for a relegation scrap but might just fancy this kind of game. I just can’t see past that away record.
Man 2-0 Birmingham
Newcastle VS Totenham
I have to disagree with those who say Spurs have an outside chance of the title after their draw with Man United. They never had any chance of the title anyway. Playing entertaining football is one thing but when you want to be title contenders you have to win these kind of tricky away games, like Everton where they lost.
I don’t know why but I fancy Newcastle.
Wolves VS Liverpool
It’s taken three games but Liverpool fans have finally realized that Kenny Daglish did not come with a magic wand. After the romance of the Mereyside Derby, where Liverpool were allot better then they have been Daglish’s first task will be to end Liverpool’s miserable away form. It wasn’t long ago Wolves won at Anfield which might make it easier for Liverpool to not take them lightly this time around. Wolves’s last two wins in the league were against Liverpool then Chelsea and make know mistake if they win on Saturday then Liverpool will be in a relegation scrap.
Wolves 1-1 Liverpool
